SDS Athlete Progressions

Lessons to Lil' Dragons

  • Athlete must demonstrate ability to swim 25 yards unassisted in any style.

Lil'Dragons to Bronze

Skills Component

  • 50 yards of freestyle with a flip turn and side breathing
  • 50 yards of backstroke with a flip turn
  • 25 yards of legal breaststroke with a pull-out OR 25 yards of legal butterfly
  • Forward start from the block
  • Consistently pushing off underwater in streamline position

Practice Component

  • 10 x 25 freestyle on 1:00 – understand how to read the clock and when to go
  • Understand and utilize circle swimming
  • Consistently do a Freestyle flip turn and attempt backstroke flip turn in practice.

Swim Meet Component

  • Participate in a sanctioned meet in the shortest distances offered for your age group in backstroke and either breaststroke or butterfly and in the 50 yard freestyle. The swimmer must complete the swims without being disqualified.

Bronze to Silver

Skills Component

  • 50 yards of each of the four competitive strokes legally with competitive turns
  • 100 IM legally with competitive turns
  • Understand concept of a relay exchange

Practice Component

  • 8 x 100 Freestyle with fins on 2:00
  • 4 x 100 IM legally on 3:30
  • 6 x 50 Freestyle kick on 1:45

Swim Meet Component

  • Compete in a sanctioned meet in the four 50’s of the strokes and a 100 freestyle

Silver to Gold

Skills Component

  • 50 yds. Fly, 100 yds. Back & Breast, 200 yds. Free and I.M.

Practice Component

  • 10 x 100 Free on 1:50
  • 8 x 50 Kick on 1:15
  • 6 x 100 IM @ 2:30
  • Must maintain a 75% practice attendance.

Swim Meet Component

  • Attends designated meets for Competitive team

Age and Time Standards

  • If younger than 11, must have at least AG State times in 200 Free and 200 IM
  • 11 & Over swimmers must have at least 1 Divisional time standard

HS Conditioning Group

  • This Group is designed for the High School swimmer who is interested in only maintaining conditioning necessary for High Swimming.
  • Group will meet 3 x weekly for 2 hrs each session 
  • Must be in High School or be an incoming freshman(summer season only)

All progression from group to group are at the discretion of the Head Coach.
